Four IBA-member banks were honored by American Banker magazine as one of America’s Best Banks to Work For:

11. Centier Bank, Merrillville
76. First Merchants Bank, Muncie
84. Stock Yards Bank & Trust Company, Louisville
90. Busey Bank, Champaign, Illinois

The ranking was based on a survey completed by employees that measured overall workplace satisfaction, plus a review of each bank’s various policies and benefits. According to the survey, the 90 banks that made the list tend to prioritize engaged leaders, a strong corporate culture, job training and advancement, and a feeling of belonging within the organization. Generous employee benefits, such as paid time off to volunteer and regular employee appreciation events, were also key, as was making time to have fun as a group.

Among the winning banks, an average of 90% of employees believe that the senior leaders at their banks live the core values of the organization. The same percentage said their employer treats them like a person, not a number. At the banks that applied but didn’t make the cut, these figures were 81% and 80%, respectively. Meanwhile, an average of 86% of employees at winning banks said they receive as much ongoing training as they need, compared with 77% at banks that didn’t make the list, and an average of 89% of employees said their banks have created an environment in which they can do their best work, versus 80% at nonwinning banks.

Three IBA-member banks were honored as 2024 Piper Sandler Sm-All Stars. The annual list identifies the top-performing small-cap banks and thrifts across the country. To qualify, companies needed to have a market cap below $2.5 billion and clear numerous hurdles related to growth, profitability, credit quality and capital strength. The class of 2024 includes 1st Source Bank, South Bend; German American Bank, Jasper; and Stock Yards Bank & Trust Company, Louisville. Overall, 12 of the 30 banks recognized came from the Midwest – more than any other region.

Javelin Strategy & Research named Bank of America, Charlotte, N.C., Best in Class on its 2024 Cyber Trust in Banking Scorecard. The annual report ranked 23 financial institutions based on 121 relevant criteria in privacy, cybersecurity, education and support. Another IBA-member bank, U.S. Bank, N.A., Minneapolis, ranked third overall.
