“Latina epitomizes what it means to be a community banker. She is such a champion for our community, so generous with her time, and always goes above and beyond to take care of our clients. I’m so grateful that she is on our team!”
— J. Daniel Maddox Chairman & CEO Citizens State Bank, New Castle
What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?
My first job was at a small local restaurant. It was there that I developed my customer service skills. This job taught me the importance of multitasking, managing my time and handling money.
What drew you to banking?
When I relocated to New Castle in 1983, I was in search of a new job. To be honest, a career in banking wasn’t something I had considered. However, a friend told me about a job opening at Citizens State Bank, so I applied. Remarkably, I am still employed there after 40 years.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their career in banking?
Focus on developing your skills and knowledge through training. Find someone within the company with more experience who is willing to provide guidance and support. Most importantly, your customers should always be your top priority.
If you weren’t a banker, what would you do for a living?
I think that teaching would be a rewarding profession. I would enjoy inspiring young minds and watching them grow.
Who or what inspires you?
My husband is my greatest supporter. He consistently stands by my side, offers encouragement and support, and motivates me to do my best.
What is the thing you have done/accomplished, professionally or personally, that you are the most proud of?
I take pride in the relationships I’ve built within the community and the trust I’ve gained from my clients. Also, volunteering in my community enables me to give back to the place I call home.
How do you define success?
True success comes from helping others achieve their goals and dreams. Embrace your best life and share it with those around you.
What are you reading or listening to?
I enjoy listening to country music, and my favorite artists are Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood.
What’s your go-to comfort food?
Ice cream is, without a doubt, my top choice for comfort food, with chocolate coming in as a close second.
What do you do for fun when you’re not working?
I enjoy camping, hiking, boating and traveling with family and friends.
What is your favorite memory?
I have many cherished memories, but my absolute favorite is last year’s Easter egg hunt. Each year, I host a dinner for Easter Sunday, complete with an egg hunt where I hide over 400 eggs. If everyone attends, I can expect 37 guests, and most will participate in the hunt. Last year, my niece told me the younger kids had a group call the night before to strategize a plan for locating the eggs. She said that the kids even looked on Google Maps to see if they could pinpoint the location of the eggs. Without a doubt, this is my most treasured memory.
