
Centier Bank, Merrillville, marked its 130th anniversary in April. Henry Schrage founded the institution as the Bank of Whiting on April 21, 1895, with $35,000 of capital (approximately $1.3 million in today’s money). Now in its fifth generation of family ownership, Centier Bank is Indiana’s largest private, family-owned bank, with roughly $8.9 billion in total assets. The bank has more than 60 offices in 35 communities across 12 counties and employs more than 1,000 associates.
